Take It from Disney-- Repurpose Your Content!

Take It from Disney-- Repurpose Your Content!

There's one weird thing I've noticed about us entrepreneurs...

We invest so much time in learning something, working hard to be great at it, even taking the opportunity to master it. But once we know that something works...

We jump onto the next new, bright-and-shiny endeavor.

...Which is kind of counterproductive - and it drives me nuts.

I'll admit though, this is something I've been doing for many years. I was always obsessed with the newness of things--always working on a new idea or a new opportunity, anything that showed new potential.

Once things started to work, I would focus my attention elsewhere. Because of this, I had to start over every single time... That's kind of draining, isn't it? As you could imagine, it was a monotonous cycle.

What changed, then?

Well... I am a huge fan of Disney!

(Wait, don't look at me like that! This isn't random, and I AM going somewhere with this. 🙂 )

So with me being the fan that I am, I always take every chance I can get to go to Disneyland. It really is the happiest place on earth!

But there is more to it than just that.

Disney Is the Master of Repurposing Content

If you look closely at what Disney is doing... you'll notice that they are THE masters of repurposing what works.

Once they find a formula that works, in the form of a character or a feature film or anything else their brilliant minds come up with, they don't just do one thing with them and call it a day, despite having made a lot of money off that one-time use.

Instead, they take the chance to use that formula repeatedly in different forms:

  • Attraction at a theme park
  • New TV series
  • Developing merchandise

...and more!

They will do everything to absolutely maximize the potential of that thing that works.

And that's what makes it genius. That's a principle that you can apply to your business as well.

Ever since I started to make sure that anything I'd figured out works, and then continued to repurpose that and use it in as many ways as possible.

For example... this blog post 🙂

I could have written this blog post and called it a day. But there's so much more you can do with it... For example, turn it into a video and post it on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram, as well as on our UpViral podcast.

Finding Opportunities to Repurpose Your Content

On the topic of courses, let's say you create a course and put a lot of time and effort into what goes into it. You are teaching a certain concept. If that concept would be found solely in your course, that would be a waste.

A course is just a course, but that idea that you've encapsulated within the course is valuable.

You could turn it into a book, or a webinar to gain new prospects or take snippets out of it for your content marketing and social media, and so much more!

There are so many things you can do with a concept. Whenever you come up with a new one, think if you can apply that concept to other parts of your business as well.

Repurpose everything that you can, and you'll find that the work doubles or even triples itself-- just from one concept.

Repurposing content means that you don't have to start over from the beginning, going up and down needlessly. You'll find that as you repurpose your content, you're actually stacking your growth higher and higher, and that's where success lies.

So take Disney as an example! Repurpose everything you can and watch your business grow like never before. 🙂
